These speakers were custom ordered and modified at the factory. They are wired with 5 pairs of jacks to allow for easy multi-amp setup for 1 to 5 amplifiers. There is also a single pair of jacks that are used in the conventional way with 1 amp. This gives you a lot of flexibility in your amplifier setup. I never tried beyond a tri-amp setup which used a Denon POA-xxxx 200 watt per channel class A amp on the 10" woofers, a Technics 100 Watt/CH amp on the upper mid and a Denon 65 watt/CH on the dome and 3 ribbon tweeters.
Currently these speakers are just hooked up to a Denon 65 watt/CH integrated amp. These are 4 ohm speakers, so most amps will put out more power than in 8 ohms, I don't recall what these amps put out in 4 ohms, I'm guessing about 1 1/2 to 2 times the 8 ohm ratings. In other words these speakers will handle a lot of power, but it needs to be "clean" power. Pushing lower quality amps to distortion will kill drivers much faster than lots of good clean power. If you don't know what the term "class A" means, these speakers might not be for you. You won't find that type of quality in the average gazillion watt amp from mass market brands.
The blue material on the speaker with grill cover removed is modeling clay. This was used to dampen any possible resonances from vibration. It was the audiophile thing to do back in the day.
